I think it’s the little things that you notice that make you realize just how far advancements in technology and social media have come. This is especially true when you think about how far they’ve come in such a short amount of time. The capabilities of a cell phone has gone to places that I personally did not imagine or again I should say, imagine so soon.
This is partially what makes the story of Amber Cole so crazy. For those who actively stay on Twitter, a worldwide trending topic of #AmberCole popped up around last night. Not knowing who Amber Cole is, I hopped on Google to look her up. In hindsight this probably wasn’t a good idea. Turns out Amber Cole is a 14 yr old girl who was videotaped giving head to another 14 yr old behind a school building. Even though she’s pretty young, this is nothing new in terms of high school news. I’m sure girls and guys have been doing freaky things in school since its conception.
What’s crazy about it is that enough people paid attention for it to trend, WORLDWIDE, on Twitter which is something I’m not accustomed to witnessing. I remember back in high school there was this girl from another school who was pleasing her boyfriend in the bathroom while he taped it. Bluetooth had just really started becoming popular with phones and I remember seeing the video because a friend of a friend of a friend all bluetoothed(real word?) the video to the point that I was able to see it off of my friend’s phone.
This was a pretty big deal at the time though in comparison to this situation it wasn’t much. There were conversations about it, such as what did we think that girl was going to do now since you can clearly see her face in the video. Will she transfer schools? Does her parents know? etc etc.
However, there is a whole new string of questions to be asked about this Amber Cole situation. I didn’t look them up but I found out that her Facebook page and Twitter were tweeted out shortly after the video surfaced. That means that anybody that looked into it knows EXACTLY who Amber Cole is. It’s not even like she can transfer to another school in a different area of her state of residence. Any classroom that she walks into she risks the chance of someone knowing who she is and what she’s done. I can’t even imagine how difficult life is about to become for her right now and I pray that she doesn’t do something crazy under the pressure and attention.
I’ve dedicated an entire post to this type of topic in the past but we all need to consistently be wary of what we film or allow to be filmed that may show us in a light that we really would rather not be seen in.
I been on twitter alot today and wondered WHO IS Amber Cole? and even ask it in my timeline- of course I received no reply! I had no idea it was a little girl not only dumb enough to do what she did, but to ALLOW IT TO BE FILMED!!! Guess she thought she’d be real popular after allowing herself to be videotaped with her, uhm, “head shot” lol – IF that was her intention, then she definitely got what she wanted. But shes sending an awful- and potentially deadly – message to other girls. —– and all in the name of “ATTENTION”

ALTHOUGH THE CIRCUMSTANCES WERE DIFFERENT, BUT IT IS THE SAME TORMENTING DEVIL UP TO HIS NO GOOD TRICKS TO DECIEVE THESE KIDS INTO COMMITTING SUICIDE. HAVE WE NOT LOOKED AT THE NEWS LATELY. I completely agree with this statement. On facebook and Twitter I’ve seen a lot of snide or rude comments in attempts to be “funny” about the situation yet few people are willing to put themselves in Amber’s shoes and think “What if this happened to me?” My prayer is also that she doesn’t feel the need to take her life because of this situation
Everybody just needs to leave the whole situation of Amber Cole alone. People tripping because she actually got caught doing it when in reality everybody or nearly everybody do it but no one is dumb enough to get caught. I hear what you’re saying but you got to remember she’s only 14 yrs old. I can only speak for myself but I was still making dumb decisions when I was 14. She obviously hasn’t matured enough yet to see some of the bigger consequences of what she does but I’m sure this experience will not be something she forgets anytime soon.
