Vybz Kartel Please Bleach Yourself Into Obscurity

Whenever I see self hate it makes me feel a certain kind of way. In Actuality it makes me feel a variety of ways and none of them are good. On one hand I’m confused, because I was never raised or put into an environment that made me feel bad about my skin color. I’ve never had to deal with people putting me on or under a pedestal because of my skin so I can’t truly comprehend what that may feel like.

On another hand I feel pity and anger. Pity towards someone who feels inferior simply because of their skin tone, and anger towards anyone who has ever contributed to them feeling that way. Which brings me to the “new” Vybz Kartel.

Now I know he’s had his skin lightened for some time and I probably could have addressed this topic around the time his new look came out but I decided to ignore it until I saw this:

His skin brightening cream for men.

You know what that is? Do you know what that product stands for? That, my readers, is self hate in a bottle. if you have ever wanted to do something about the “darkie” in you, you only need to apply this cream to alleviate that. Because lighter is brighter and better right?

Although it may not be entirely our fault(slavery and society play a HUGE role in some cases) I’m convinced that black culture continues to perpetuate reasons to hate each other. Intelligent black person vs a “nigga”, Culture clashes(Ex: Haitians vs Jamaicans) and of course light skinned vs dark skinned.

I’ve met numerous people, especially women, who feel better than or lesser than others because of their skin. How does your skin tone determine how attractive you are? I’ve seen beautiful and ugly women of the same skin tone, and that’s strictly my opinion. Now here you have Vybz Kartel, who clearly has a problem with his skin, offering a product for other men who have the same self esteem issues that he does. Hopefully this business venture ends in failure for him but I wouldn’t be too surprised if it sold moderately well.

I would like to see this type of thinking become something of the past but it won’t until we bring change to our own style of thinking. Don’t allow people to define what should be seen as attractive, they don’t look at the world the same way you do. Focus on more important things than skin, like say, Personality or actual physical features that you find attractive. Encourage others to do the same.

I would like to know what do you all think about Vybz’s skin Cream and the light vs dark issue? Drop a comment and share your thoughts.

Vybz Kartel didn’t bleach his skin because of self hate…he is too cocky for that shit…Kartel is just a guy who is rebellious and do what he feels like doing…he doesn’t need approval from anyone.

White ppl for years have been making products to lighten the skin…so what if a black person wants to enter in the market?

I see no big deal in it…its just business. #mythoughs

I mean everyone is entitled to their opinion. In my opinion, somebody who loves themselves to the point of being cocky doesn’t lighten their entire skin tone.
Also the general purpose of cream used to lighten the skin is for people who have unusual dark/light patches, or varying pigmentation of the skin which also doesn’t apply to vybz kartel.

Only Vybz knows his reasons for doing what he does, but in a world where black skin is subliminally but constantly looked down upon, why encourage a product that only feeds that mentality?
