#ThrowbackThursdays My Top Ten Early Childhood T.V. Shows

I always enjoy bringing new ideas/remixing old ones into my blog, especially if they tie into the overall theme…

With that being said, I’m introducing my own version of #ThrowbackThursdays where I’ll be posting what you could consider to be “Online Time Capsules” of different things that I enjoyed at different ages and phases of my life. I know I’ve attempted this before with the very brief, and unfocused, “A Few Of My Favorite Things” series, but I wanted to really narrow things down and document certain time periods of my life, even if it’s piece by piece. I can’t say that I’ll have one every single Thursday (I’d run out of things to reminisce on very quickly) but this will be one of the featured series of this new year.

I’ll start off with some of my favorite early childhood T.V. shows, and by “early childhood” I mean anywhere from ages 5-8. You may note some “obvious” absences from this list (What? No Power Rangers??) but certain shows I either didn’t watch (played outside a lot as a kid as well as read every book I could get my hands on) or wasn’t allowed to watch until I was a little older (Yup… Power Rangers) Despite that, these are my personal Top Ten Cartoon T.V. Shows, in no particular order, during that age.

1.) Arthur

If you randomly sing out loud ” Every day when you’re walking down the street” and your significant other doesn’t reply “Everybody that you meet” They’re too young for you bro (or from another country) Arthur captured early elementary school angst with everything from the strict teacher to the bratty little sister.

2.) Magic Schoolbus

Your fondest memory of your favorite Elementary School Teacher still doesn’t hold a candle to Ms. Frizzle. Ms. Frizzle WAS your favorite school teacher, because you were learning all kinds of new information and facts and didn’t even know it. Rare case in which education and entertainment blended together in perfection.

Duck Tales

Ducktales didn’t officially make my list but I threw it in because it was one of the first cartoons that came to mind when I began to compose this list. It’s hard to forget a show that has A.) One of the catchiest cartoon intros of the 90’s, B.) has characters with unforgettable names like Uncle Scrooge McDuff, and his nephews, Huey, Dewie, and Louie and C.) Uncle Scrooge swims in his piles of money to relax!!

3.) Darkwing Duck

Disney’s not so subtle version of Batman. This cartoon definitely used the Adam West Batman era as inspiration, but I loved it as a kid. I’m sure it set the stage for me to enjoy the Batman universe as I got older.

4.) Recess

Despite the overt stereotypes (or was that the point?) Recess set the bar for a children’s show that any child who has ever went to school at any point in time can relate to. Everyone could identify with one of the types of kids that was introduced within the show. Also, the way they portrayed the big kids as well as the kindergarteners? Genius.

5.) Adventures of Sonic The Hedgehog

There was a time where all you needed was a speedy, wise cracking hedgehog, his two tailed fox friend, and a half hour of robotic hijinks to make your day. It was a simpler time then…
