6.) Pokemon
Do I really need to explain why one of the longest running, most popular cartoons of all time made my list? Does the phrase “Gotta Catch Em All” hold any degree of impact to your life? Yeah… Thought so.
7.) Digimon
Even though it was never as popular as Pokemon, Digimon was always the more serious cartoon, which is something I realized even as a kid. Topics such as death, friendships, betrayal, and relationships were all skillfully tackled within this series. Plus the character’s grew with their audience up until the series’ end, unlike Pokemon where Ash Ketchum still seems to be a 10 year old boy.
8.) Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles
I understand that, like Pokemon, young impressionable male children like myself were pretty much brainwashed into liking TMNT. Between the toys, the games, and the television show it was all but unavoidable. Couldn’t tell that to my 5 yr old self though. I still have some family photos of me in my Raphael bandana that may never see the light of day…
9.) Big Bad Beetleborgs
Despite not being allowed to watch Power Rangers until I was little bit older due to the “violence,” I was still allowed to watch Beetleborgs, which was just a slightly toned version of Power Rangers. It didn’t make much sense plot wise, but seeing kids who could suddenly transform into adult beetle warriors was an awesome thing to watch at the age of seven. I still think of the show every time I see any color combination of red, blue, and green (You don’t really see Gold, Silver, and “Platinum Purple” together very often)
10.) Spider-Man Animated Series
Fun Fact: Spider Man is my favorite childhood Super Hero of all time. I probably couldn’t count the amount of daydreams I had as a child of one day being bit by a radioactive spider and getting Spider powers. I watched this show faithfully and ,despite the fact that it has not aged well at all, I will always have fond memories of this series.
