It’s The Cons Fool! [Supercon Recap]

As I mentioned before, this July was first time attending a Convention in 5 years and my how times had changed! It’s always interesting to see how certain things become more “mainstream” as they increase in popularity, which isn’t always a bad thing. That being said, I wasn’t happy about the sudden change in admission prices that came with the new and improved location for Supercon. Five years ago, I’d parked for free and Spent $25 bucks on a ticket to get in. All of a sudden, it’s $15 for parking and $30 to get in, almost double the original price.  Worth it? My wallet says no but my memories of the experience would disagree.

Heisenberg

Five years ago, I would say that if you weren’t heavily into anime and at least moderately into comics, you’d have walked around the venue feeling very confused at who and what you were looking at ( I was somewhat confused myself) This year I was much less confused by what I was taking in and you could see how much influence several years of comic book films had on the revamp of the convention.

Deathstroke

I saw a family of “Supermen” including a Super baby,  A Batman and Robin duo, and about 10 different Deadpool costumes.

Supercon Superheroes

For every Goku and Vegeta figure, there was a Batman and Superman figure. Don’t like either? How about video games? There were stores selling N64’s and imported Japanese games that my 12-year-old self would have spazzed out upon seeing.

Old School Game Consoles

By the time I was done walking the venue, taking pictures of awesome costumes, and buying overpriced posters, I was feeling good. If anything, Supercon will be even bigger next year and more “acceptable” by the mainstream. I guess the “Nerds” win again?
