L.A. Times: From Boca Raton With Love

I know it’s been two weeks since my last installment of my L.A. Times Series, but up until recently, I didn’t have much to talk about.

Just like the image that I chose to start this post, I’ve tried to spark a flame that doesn’t seem to want to ignite… BUT instead of giving up, I’ve just been stubbornly trying to find new ways to spark the flames of my career.

To start off, that interview agency I went to? Didn’t get a call back. I was able to land an audition for a student film that weekend, that I never heard back from. I’ve also been submitting myself non-stop just to land some auditions… and no response so far.

I decided to try to get some new headshots after coming across an advertisement on Craigslist.. and as much as I’m an advocate of Craigslist (I’ve gotten some really good, legit items from there) there’s still a lot of scams that take place, and the last thing I needed was to come across a weirdo who takes “professional” shots with their smart phone.

Instead I came across someone who was very professional and gave me some great shots like this:

That being said, I have to give a shout out to Michelle Genevieve, Owner of EnfoqueLumierePhotography for the awesome photography.

Now of course, over this period of two weeks, I made time to see “Straight Outta Compton” which was a great Hip Hop Biopic and I hope that the success will inspire Hollywood to make more Black Centric films in the years to come.

I’ll be honest, I’m the type of person who is perfectly capable of doing activities by myself. Whether it’s the movies, a concert, or any other type of live event… If I want to go, I will be there, whether friends can make it or not.

Being able to do things like this is dependent on the ideal that I’m CHOOSING to do these things by myself, instead of having no other option. Since I’ve been in Cali, a lot of these solo events have to do with me having no other options.

Not to say I don’t have friends here, but everyone is busy with their lives, and it can be hard to set up group events when people have their own priorities to take care of.

Thankfully, I decided to go hang out with Cedric, one of my friends from college who’d moved out here a year before me, and found out that two more people who I knew from college had recently moved over here as well: Michael and Brie.

And Just like that,(most of) my loneliness was gone.

Since then, it’s been a lot of hanging out and catching up, even taking the time out to watch the New Fantastic Four, which somehow managed to be worse than I expected it to be.

Now another week has passed by and I’ve decided to expand my creative independent hustle by launching A.V. Editing which you can read all about here.

A.V. Editing (2)

Things seem to change for me daily, and my focus is on them continuously changing for the better. Just waiting for that spark…
