“Becky With the Good Hair” was another skit that I’d written and filmed when I was looking for ways to have more reel footage available. If you want the full backstory for that inspiration, you can read more about it here.
What inspired this particular scenario was an observation I’d made after Beyonce’s “Lemonade” album dropped earlier that year. On the album, Beyonce addresses Jay-z cheating on her while mentioning a woman that she refers to as “Becky with the good hair.”
There was a lot of spill over from that album, especially when it came to relationships for your average couple. After all, if Beyonce could be cheated on, what was to stop other women’s partners from cheating on them?
So I decided to exaggerate a scenario in which that “Did you cheat on me?” question would come up. What made it even better was that I was able to convince my friend Tremaine, who’s a huge Beyonce fan, to play the part of my girlfriend in the scene.
