In a time and year where the Industry as a whole is still on somewhat of a standstill and the available opportunities are far more scarce, I was pleasantly surprised to get notifications from my friends about them seeing my face in an Instagram Ad.
Once I got a chance to check the ad out, I realized that it was from an opportunity I’d gotten last year, where I was chosen as the talent for a shoot for the Calm Meditation App.
This was another shoot that was on a smaller scale but still held a much bigger meaning for me.
I wouldn’t have predicted that I’d get the opportunity to be involved in a shoot that showcased an app that I’d actually used as a simple consumer. It hits a little differently when the director asks you to download the app so they can showcase you using it for the commercial spot and you already have it on your phone.
Plus it was all filmed in a location that was converted into a “gym” for the shoot.. and those are ALWAYS my favorite types of shoots to do.
The conflict I always have with these types of shoots is that something being monumental to me doesn’t always mean that it’s monumental to my overall career..I’d even go so far as to say that most of the things in my “personal achievement” category don’t convert well to a “career defining moment.” As “ungrateful” as this can potentially come across, it does make seeing things like this a little harder to truly celebrate… I’d definitely love to have an undeniable career defining moment, but I’m still very grateful to be able to even have a post like this in 2020.
